rumble in america, that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. if you saw jon stewart and me on saturday night, you may have noticed there was a very important theme amidst all the chaos. stewart, an honest and smart liberal person. he believes the federal government should directly help americans who can't or won't help themselves. stewart supports an antistate -- nanny state where everyone is provided live necessary knits and economic outcomes are guaranteed. i disagree with that not because of the intent. the intent is noble. but simply because it's impossible. the constitution provides americans protection so they can pursue happiness. but the founding fathers did not guarantee happiness or material well-being. if you try do that, you will bankrupt the nation. and that's what's happening right now with the growing $16 trillion debt. stewart and i previewed what we'll all be voting on come november 6. do you want a nanny state or do you want a self-reliant nation? that's what's at stake in this election. now, the left wing press not going to tell you that. it portra

abc's jon karl is standing by with this late news. jon? >> reporter: this is ahead of a major congressional hearing tomorrow into what happened in that attack on our consulate in libyament and we are hearing new details, details that we have never heard before about what went down and this is significantly different than what we were told at the time. at the time as you recall we were told it was a protest that went bad and became an attack. now we are told there was no protest going on outside that embassy. the first indication that they heard anything outside the walls of the embassy, of the consulate compound was an explosion and gunfire. they looked through a camera to see what was going on and we are told they saw a large number of armed men coming in and approaching that compound. we're told it was a very complex attack without precedent in u.s. diplomatic history, we've never seen an attack like this in libya or anywhere else we were told, by this senior state department official. so, diane, one other fascinating detail is they still don't know how ambassador stevens go

, he appears not to be doing anything either. jon husted decided to kick it down the road. we'll let it ride. if he decides to appeal, that will push the ultimate resolution of when you get to vote in ohio. it will push the resolution even closer to election day. we're already inside a month. he could just establish early voting hours, but why the rush? the election is still almost a month away. i have my hair to wash and stuff. by his own admission issue the later you change the rules before an election, the more pressure that puts on local elections officials to accommodate those rules. they have to publicize the hours, have the machines ready, the voters have to know when to vote. that's it the job of the elections board. ohio has had early voting for everyone since 2005. the secretary of state was already trying to get them to change from something they had been doing. now he's making it so they won't know what they will be able to do and whether they will go back to the way it used to work since 2005 or whether they will have shorter hours. he's making it so the local elections
